About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking an HTM Radiation Therapy Service Technician to maintain complex medical equipment, specifically linear accelerators, related radiation treatment systems, and imaging equipment. This role involves installation, maintenance, calibration, repair, and quality assurance. The technician will be customer-focused, possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to prioritize service calls effectively while adhering to Mayo Clinic policies and procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with radiation safety, stored energy safety, and contingency plans. The position requires advanced analytical skills to solve complex technical issues promptly. Service calls are managed through HTM Leadership, Support Specialists, or a CMMS dashboard, with a need for rapid response to emergent customer calls. On-call duties, overtime, non-standard shifts, and travel to other Mayo Clinic sites and vendor training are required. A commitment to continuous learning and mastery of complex equipment is essential to support Mayo Clinic's mission. While the primary focus is radiation therapy equipment, support in other imaging departments may be necessary. The technician will demonstrate mastery of accelerator and imaging repair principles and may mentor less experienced technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Electronics/Healthcare Technology Management, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Engineering (mechanical/computer/electronics) with one year direct experience maintaining linear accelerators and radiotherapy equipment.
  • Associate’s degree in Biomedical Electronics/Healthcare Technology Management, Electronics, Mechatronics, Engineering (mechanical/computer/electronics), or technical discipline and 3 years of direct experience maintaining linear accelerators and radiotherapy equipment.
  • U.S. Military training in biomedical electronics, mechatronics, or engineering (mechanical/computer/electronics) and 3 years direct experience maintaining linear accelerators and radiotherapy equipment.
  • Alternatively, 5 years of combined imaging, radiotherapy or particle accelerator equipment maintenance may be considered in lieu of minimum direct accelerator maintenance.
  • Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorships now, or in the future (e.g., be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
  • Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complex medical equipment through effective implementation of the Mayo Clinic Medical Equipment Management Plan.
  • Demonstrate technical skills and tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair, and QA of linear accelerators, related radiation treatment systems, and complex imaging equipment.
  • Be exceptionally customer focused with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prioritize service calls appropriately and adhere to Mayo policy and procedure.
  • Adhere to rules, regulations, and policies regarding radiation safety, stored energy safety, and contingency plans in the event of equipment failure.
  • Utilize advanced analytical skills to solve very complex technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Respond rapidly to emergent calls directly from the customer.
  • Fulfill on-call, overtime, and non-standard shift requirements.
  • Travel to other Mayo Clinic sites and applicable vendor training.
  • Continuously improve knowledge to develop a mastery of increasingly complex equipment and support the mission of Mayo Clinic.
  • Provide radiation therapy equipment support, with potential secondary work in other imaging departments.
  • Demonstrate mastery of accelerator and imaging repair principles and success in complex therapy equipment repairs.
  • Work with and share knowledge with less experienced technicians.
