The HSRC Operator Trainee is responsible for monitoring unloading and loading activities of all railcars. This role involves verifying line-ups to appropriate tanks, starting pumps for oil movements, and checking railcar temperatures to determine if steam is required for heating. The trainee will manage steam to railcars, ensuring proper offloading without disrupting the refinery's steam system. Quality assurance and control of incoming and outgoing railcars, including checking seals and looking for leaks, are key responsibilities. The position provides oversight to ensure procedures are followed to prevent incidents, documents railcar discharges, and records required information on log sheets. The trainee will also write work orders, notify supervisors of issues, perform vapor/air freeing of pumps, flush lines, and ensure flow meters are functioning correctly. Communication between the railcar field operation and the control room operator is essential, as is planning oil movements to avoid system constraints. Support for Yield Accounting, Shipping, and Sample handling, as well as interaction with the Contractor Supervisor for scheduling, safety, and environmental awareness, are also part of the role. The trainee will provide shift summaries to relief personnel, work with the Logistics Coordinator on assigned tasks, and perform needed maintenance or preventive maintenance, including checking lubrication and filling reservoirs. The role requires responding to and assisting with spills, following all applicable guidelines and procedures, and serving as an "on-call" resource for emergencies. Winterization of the rail area and operation of the Railcar Mover for spotting cars are also duties. The trainee will perform checklists on the Railcar Mover, notify supervisors of deficiencies, perform assigned duties during power failures, and respond to call-out overtime and scheduled overtime for vacations and sickness.
