About The Position

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario is a provincial association, committed to improving services and support for individuals living with mental illnesses and addictions issues, and to the promotion of mental health in Ontario. The HSJCC Engagement and Communications Specialist will support the work of the Human Services and Justice Coordinating Committee (HSJCC) Network to improve communications, engagement and representation of diverse voices and members within the Network. The Specialist will support the strategic direction, programs and policy initiatives of the HSJCC Network through extensive engagement, networking, communications, knowledge exchange and event management skills. They will work directly with the Provincial HSJCC, Local and Regional HSJCCs and other agencies within the human services and justice sectors by strategically leveraging the HSJCC Network’s communications tools, including its website, newsletter, and social media channels.

Requirements

  • University degree in a relevant field (i.e., health, human services, criminal justice).
  • Three to five years of engagement experience and a strong ability for facilitating knowledge exchange.
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience leading diverse groups required.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to execute strategies in a clear, digestible manner utilizing a wide range of formats and audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and networks.
  • Experience managing projects and managing multiple tasks within established timelines in a team environment required.
  • Familiarity with key concepts of mental health promotion, health equity and social determinants of health required.
  • Familiarity with Zoom Webinar and email marketing campaign services (i.e., MailChimp) required.
  • Experience working in multi-sectoral partnerships and liaising with non-governmental organizations and government agencies required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with WordPress is an asset.
  • Experience in graphic design, web design and social media is an asset.
  • Experience working with peer-led groups and those with lived experience groups an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice sector and the intersections between the human services and justice systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Enhancing a comprehensive strategy to improve sector engagement at a local, regional and provincial level within the HSJCC Network.
  • Coordinating multi-sectoral and diverse groups on behalf of the HSJCC Secretariat to lead the Provincial HSJCC’s advisory committees including addressing anti-racism and people with lived and experience.
  • Collaborating with key partners including but not limited to Local and Regional HSJCCs, member organizations and those with lived experience.
  • Creating and executing strategies to share relevant information and ideas and promote the HSJCC Network.
  • Leading knowledge exchange activities including educational webinars, forums, and sector meetings for the Provincial HSJCC.
  • Working alongside the communications team to ensure consistent branding and messaging for the Provincial HSJCC and HSJCC Network.
  • Support the communications team in translating the complex work of the HSJCC Network into easily digested analysis and content for internal and external audiences.
  • Contributing innovative ideas and content for various collateral materials (web, print, multimedia and other promotional materials)
  • Working in partnership with the HSJCC Network Coordinator, HSJCC Program Manager and Justice Policy Analyst to develop workplan activities and meet key deliverables.
