About The Position

PCL Constructors Canada Inc., part of the PCL Family of Companies, is seeking a HSE Student for their Ottawa district in Halifax, Nova Scotia, within the Canadian Buildings sector. This is a 4-month term position starting January 2027. PCL focuses on building opportunities, careers, and communities, investing in their people and projects. Requirements

  • Ability to implement HSE program elements and safe operating procedures
  • Knowledge of environmental requirements and the ability to implement systems which meet compliance
  • Ability to plan and employ preventative measures to reduce the risks of exposure to hazards
  • The ability to determine the cause of an incident, and to initiate and implement corrective action to prevent the likelihood of reoccurrence
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the HSE Professional with inspections and incidental investigations
  • Managing documents (e.g., data entry, SMC entries, taking minutes, filing)
  • Assisting with the orientation of new employees
  • Developing of training materials
  • Reviewing paperwork (e.g., PSI, tailgate meetings, safework procedure, trend analysis)
  • Monitoring and maintaining the environmental program
  • Recognizing and following PCL and local legislative requirements
  • Analyzing site-specific trends and incidents and reporting findings to district
  • Gathering/reviewing/distributing safety-related statistical information
  • Interpreting, communicating, and reinforcing project safety standards to workforce
