About The Position

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager is accountable for designing and executing comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant work environment. This position entails performing risk assessments, delivering training, and ensuring accurate documentation to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the HSE Manager acts as a strategic partner, working closely with the team to meet safety KPIs and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols by both staff and floor employees.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental management in an industrial environment.
  • Practical knowledge of occupational safety legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act) as well as environmental regulations and reporting.
  • Proficiency in computer software, including MS Office, Excel, Word, and Access.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
  • Travel when required (2-3 times per year).
  • CRSP certification is an asset.
  • Familiarity with environmental (EPA) regulations, including record-keeping requirements, is a major asset.
  • Strong expertise in managing CNESST cases.
  • Experience with Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS) programs, Lean/Continuous Improvement/Six Sigma training/certification, and 5S training/certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plant-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring clear communication and understanding across all levels of staff.
  • Notify management promptly of any significant safety concerns and collaborate on effective solutions.
  • Ensure management conducts thorough accident investigations and prepares accurate reports for serious incidents.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining environmental records, ensuring compliance with permits, operating conditions, sampling, and regulatory standards.
  • Keep the plant’s incident management system updated with accurate and current information.
  • Maintain safety records, including training logs, evacuation plans, and documentation of accidents and incidents.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and actively contribute to their resolution.
  • Conduct and manage risk assessments as needed.
  • Perform regular environmental health and safety inspections.
  • Support department managers and supervisors in implementing corrective actions for safety and environmental concerns.
  • Develop and deliver company-wide training programs in line with occupational health and safety laws, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and internal standards.
  • Co-chair Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and oversee the safe return-to-work program.
