About The Position

The HSE Facility Specialist is responsible for working primarily on the manufacturing floor to verify employee and equipment compliance with LOTO (Lock out, Tag out) requirements, conduct OSHA & EPA inspections, and conduct industrial hygiene sampling of various types throughout the facility. This position will conduct HSE audits and inspections on a regular basis.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 5 year manufacturing/factory experience preferred in a fast paced setting
  • Experience with or training in safety and environmental compliance
  • Mechanical & electrical aptitude experience or training
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervision, and management
  • Ability to obtain a forklift and aerial list license, including passing any required physicals

Responsibilities

  • Conduct LOTO (Lockout Tagout) Periodic Inspections of equipment & personnel covered by the OSHA Lockout standard (29 CFR 1910.147), ensuring that each machine and authorized person is audited at least annually.
  • Manage Crown Battery’s Exposure Monitoring Program for noise, hazardous chemicals & heat including equipment calibration and data management. Calibrate and maintain exposure monitoring equipment.
  • Conduct OSHA & EPA inspections of areas & processes as required (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly & annually)
  • Conduct wipe sampling for lead in cafeterias on a weekly basis. Sample other areas upon request.
  • Monitor plant ventilation, make-up air and baghouse systems to verify function & compliance (OSHA required quarterly monitoring of the plant ventilation systems).
  • Conduct sound level monitoring annually & after process changes, as required by OSHA’s Hearing Protection Standard. Major processes to be monitored at least annually & new processes after release from engineering for normal production.
  • Completed required inspections such as (baghouse pressure drop monitoring (daily), hazardous waste area (weekly), storm water drains & detention pond (weekly), visible emission monitoring (weekly), fire extinguisher/eye wash (monthly).
  • Assist with new hire & annual employee respirator fit testing.
  • Conduct New Hire Safety Orientations when needed.
  • Work with hourly employees to improve existing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) & PPE Assessments ensuring that all JSA’s & PPE assessments are evaluated and updated at least once every three years.
  • Maintain the facility Visual Management Safety System including but not limited to Lead Exposure signs, Respirator Area signs, Department PPE Posters, LOTO & Energy Control signs, Robot enclosure signs, Laser Are signs, & Evacuation Route posters.
  • Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures, and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.
  • Assist with blood lead counseling when & as directed.
  • Conduct blood-lead-related checks such as red tape audits, facial hair compliance audits, hand wash & shower checks, locker room inspections & respirator compliance audits.
  • Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.
