Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a health and safety role within a manufacturing, industrial, or plant environment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and standards relevant to manufacturing operations.
  • Experience conducting workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing safety practices, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, chemical handling (WHMIS), and equipment safety.
  • Ability to maintain accurate safety documentation, including incident reports, inspection records, training logs, and corrective action tracking.
  • Proficient with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office) and safety tracking systems.
  • Able to work independently while supporting site leadership and contributing to a team environment with strong communication skills.
  • Physically able to perform site inspections within a manufacturing plant, including walking the floor and observing production areas.

Responsibilities

  • Support and administer the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) program for employees working at the Red Deer manufacturing plant, in accordance with applicable occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Serve as the primary HSE contact for manufacturing plant employees, supervisors, and site leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain site‑specific safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices related to manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for plant operations, equipment, and processes.
  • Investigate, document, and track workplace incidents, near misses, hazards, and injuries occurring within the manufacturing facility; support root cause analysis and corrective action follow‑up.
  • Coordinate injury and incident reporting and maintain accurate records for manufacturing plant employees.
  • Maintain HSE documentation, including inspection reports, incident logs, corrective action tracking, and training records for the manufacturing facility.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety orientations and required training for manufacturing employees, including new hires and site‑specific refreshers.
  • Support emergency response planning and drills applicable to the manufacturing plant environment.
  • Participate in and support safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committee activities.
  • Monitor and promote compliance with PPE requirements, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, chemical handling (WHMIS), and other manufacturing‑specific safety controls.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, inspections, and site reviews related to the manufacturing facility.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by engaging directly with manufacturing employees and leadership, encouraging hazard reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance and support to supervisors and employees on safe work practices within the manufacturing environment.
  • Leading by example by following established Quality, Health and Safety policies & procedures.
  • Showing respect and pride for facilities and equipment.
  • Being responsible – on time for work and take breaks during designated times.
  • Carrying out other tasks from time to time as assigned by a supervisor or request for assistance as needed.
