About The Position

Safety Management Group (SMG) is a nationally recognized professional service organization that provides workplace safety consulting, training, staffing, program planning, and implementation. SMG seeks an HSE Advisor with OCIP experience in Richmond, Virginia. SMG full-time, benefited Associates are eligible for Premium Pay after working 40 billable hours for the week. Premium pay is at a 1.35 multiplier. Annual pay/merit review/increase.

Requirements

  • A degree in Environmental Health and Safety or a related field is required.
  • 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience with construction insurance.
  • Construction safety, HSE, risk management, or contractor oversight experience.
  • Knowledge of Owner-Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP), contractor insurance enrollment, claims management, and incident reporting.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, field observations, and contractor compliance reviews.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, construction safety programs, and incident investigation processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and insurance representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee contractor safety performance, insurance compliance, and adherence to project HSE requirements on large-scale construction projects.
  • Serve as the OCIP loss control representative, managing contractor enrollment, claims processes, and incident reporting requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the client and contractors, ensuring effective communication and alignment on safety, environmental, and project expectations.
  • Conduct field audits, inspections, and compliance reviews to verify adherence to OSHA regulations, project standards, and contractor safety programs.
  • Lead and support incident investigations and Root Cause Analyses (RCA), driving corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Review contractor safety plans, JHAs, permits, emergency action plans, and safe work procedures to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Monitor contractor HSE performance and provide regular updates, reports, and recommendations to project stakeholders.
