About The Position

This position is for the new 26-27 school year effective 7/1/26. Under general supervision of the Site Director, delivers high quality Early Childhood Development services to children enrolled in an 11-hour, full year classroom, including educational, social, physical, nutritional and psychological development of children under their care. Communicates with parents about their child’s individual progress and maintains records of attendance and educational achievement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education OR an associate’s degree and must be actively enrolled to pursue a bachelor’s degree in child development or related field.
  • Valid California Child Development Teacher Permit or higher level permits.
  • The Multiple Subject Teaching Credential authorizes the holder to teach all subjects in a self-contained classroom, including preschool. PACE will accept a valid credential in lieu of a Child Development Permit.
  • Two (2) years as paid staff/volunteer in a licensed child care center serving children under 5 years old is required, including roles as Teacher and/or Assistant Teacher.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, and to plan and implement learning experiences that: Ensure effective curriculum planning and implementation based upon individual children’s development continuum and integrate child assessment data in individual and group planning.
  • Promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate.
  • Include developmentally appropriate learning experiences in language, literacy, social and emotional development, math, science, social studies, creative arts, and physical development that are focused on achieving progress outlined in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five.
  • Establish and maintain a healthy learning environment; and Encourage families’ engagement with their children in all Head Start programs to support the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills, written/oral communication and observation skills.
  • Requires strong time management skills.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Current Adult & Pediatric CPR/1St Aid Certificate
  • Reliable transportation to get to assigned work location in accordance with assigned working hours.
  • Must pass the following background checks prior to start of employment: Sex Offender Registry, Child Abuse and Neglect State Registry, State or Tribal Criminal History Check, including fingerprints, FBI Criminal History Check, including fingerprints
  • Must have verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment, to be renewed every four (4) years (every 4 years for chest x-rays).
  • Must pass health screening (LIC 503) at time of employment, health screening is accepted within one year prior to hire, to be renewed every four (4) years.
  • Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), and Influenza.
  • Must complete 15 clock hours of professional development annually that builds the knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities of staff to improve child, family, and staff outcomes. Of this, a minimum of 50% of the 15 hours (or 7.5 hours) must be focused on the specific content area or job assignment.
  • Must also complete an annual Professional Development Plan (PDP) to be reviewed 3 times during the year.
  • Must obtain 21 hours/year of professional development (105 hours every five years) to maintain their teaching certification.

  • The physical environment the incumbent will work in is typically a pre-school environment with moderate noise levels that would be expected in that type of work environment.
  • Outdoor and indoor supervision of playgrounds / workplace for on-going periods occurs regularly.
  • Lift and carry up to 45 lbs. or more.
  • The individual must be able to work with children at their eye level and always maintain visual supervision of children, as well as hear, communicate, and comprehend effectively with children, staff, and parents.
  • The individual also must be able to walk, sit, kneel, crawl, carry, push, pull and participate in activities indoors and outdoors as needed in an environment with children and adults.
  • T.B. Test within the past six months prior to employment, and every four (4) years thereafter (every 4 years for a chest X-ray).
  • Must pass health screening (LIC 503) at time of employment, health screening is accepted within one year prior to hire, to be renewed every four (4) years.

  • Representative physical demands of the job include normal vision and hearing, standing for extended periods, sitting for extended periods, kneeling, and stooping, manipulating objects with hands, reaching overhead, and occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 45 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with a secondary teaching team, responsible for the care and supervision of all enrolled PACE Education Division children, planning and implementing classroom lessons, conducting meetings and conferences with parents, coordinating activities and events for children and parents, interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone, email and in person, and preparing correspondence, reports, records and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
  • Coordinate daily routines, instructional activities, and child supervision across a shared 11-hour program day.
  • Ensure proper care, safety, and supervision of groups of children at all times while maintaining appropriate child/teacher ratios.
  • Ensure classroom routine is conducive to learning, safety and development.
  • Plan and implement weekly lesson plans and activities for children indoors and out in accordance with all PACE Education Division selected curriculums and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Conduct learning and developmental assessments of children, including but not limited to DRDP-2025, ASQ-3, ASQ: SE2, etc. according to timelines.
  • Encourage and support parents in their participation in children’s screening and assessment process, including anecdotal information.
  • Conduct interior and exterior environmental safety checks to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Conduct annual teacher-parent conferences and home visits.
  • Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, and other required paperwork, both manually and digitally.
  • Work effectively with other team members
  • Maintain an organized and developmentally appropriate classroom.
  • Use non-teaching hours to complete paperwork, home visits, conferences and other requirements.
  • Ensure accurate, complete and up to date children’s files, paperwork and documentation, according to agency policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with children of varying abilities and adhere to Individual Educational Plans.
  • Prepare and assist in serving family style meals to children.
  • Clean and sanitize all areas of the classroom, including food preparation, dishwashing, eating and toileting/diapering areas.
  • Help children practice good hygiene, including personal cleanliness and toileting/diapering, as needed.
  • Serve as a translator for parents who do not speak English (as appropriate).
  • Actively attends and participates in-service trainings provided by PACE and other agencies.
  • Ability to attend assignments away from assigned site, such as in-service trainings, home visits, parent conferences, etc.
  • Organize and maintain instructional and program supplies.
  • Participate in the set-up and take down of the classroom and outdoor learning environments, as needed.
  • Participate in recruitment of children to maintain full enrollment and an active waitlist.
  • Recruit, train and supervise parents and other volunteers.
  • Adhere to agency policies and procedures.
  • Provide direction and coaching to Associate Teacher(s), including performance feedback to Site Director to aid in their professional development.
  • Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate customer service to parents, children, community representatives/members, and all PACE staff on a daily basis.
  • Cooperate with Site Lead, Site Director and Service Area Managers in planning, supervision, and implementation of overall program.
  • Assist in accomplishing the program's Non-Federal Match contribution through the access of community resources (services, donations, discounts, and/or goods) and classroom volunteer hours.
  • Support with child watch during parent meetings/trainings, as needed.
  • Substitute as needed in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Other duties as assigned, within the scope of the position to maintain a quality preschool program.
