About The Position

This is a 1.0 Science Position at West Valley High School. The mission of the school is to partner with students, families, and the community to inspire, engage, and equip students with the necessary skills to achieve individual potential and become successful citizens. The role involves teaching all levels of science as assigned, including academic intervention classes for struggling students. Instruction should be dynamic, interactive, and hands-on, incorporating higher-level thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving methods. The teacher will maintain a positive learning climate, provide differentiated instruction, and develop relationships with students and staff. A willingness to teach an advisory period focused on SEL and post-high school plans is required, as is the integration of technology and development of reading/writing relevance within the curriculum. Teamwork and cooperation with colleagues, administrators, and paraprofessionals are essential. The position requires active participation in professional development and a commitment to supervising student activities outside regular school hours. Creating a culture of safety and belonging through daily routines and utilizing Universal Design for Learning strategies to facilitate student ownership of learning are key aspects of the role.

Requirements

Valid Secondary Washington State Teacher’s Certification with major in Science.
Masters degree in Science or Math preferred.
Bilingual Preferred

Responsibilities

Teach all levels of science as assigned.
Teach academic intervention classes that will be based around our struggling students.
Utilize student assessment data to formulate instruction decisions.
Incorporate dynamic, interactive, student involved hands-on instructional style.
Actively engage students in the learning process using interactive, problem solving and research based instructional methods.
Regularly incorporate higher-level thinking and analytical skills in instruction, assessment and performance.
Incorporate interactive, problem solving, and researched based instructional methods.
Maintain a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
Provide differentiated instruction to meet diversified student learning needs.
Be devoted to developing relationships amongst students and staff.
Willingness to teach an advisory period with the focus of SEL and high school and beyond plans.
Incorporate technology into the instructional process.
Develop reading/writing relevance for all students including a willingness to incorporate work-based reading and writing skills within the curriculum.
Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
Actively engage with other departmental members in professional learning communities, development of common assessment standards, and other aspects that ensure every student has the opportunity for a rigorous and relevant education.
Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.
Regularly assess student work, input grades regularly into Skyward, and regularly contact parents regarding student performance/behavior in your classroom.
Actively participate in all workshops and training sessions that support building and district programs and goals, including the West Valley School District professional growth program (TAP/ACCEL).
Make the commitment to supervise a variety of student activities outside the regular school day (dances, athletic events, etc.).
Use daily routines to create a culture of safety and belonging in the classroom.
Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students, such as: station rotation, small group instructions, and the integration of technology.
Facilitate student ownership of learning by using Universal Design for Learning strategies which include providing students choice with multiple ways to access content, multiple ways for students to monitor their progress and multiple ways for students to demonstrate their learning.
Work in partnership with both large and small groups of teachers and other professional staff.
Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff.
Team up with grade level colleagues to plan lessons, analyze student data, and maintain a focus on continuous improvement.
Cooperate with building administrator in the observation and evaluation process.
When working with instructional paraprofessionals, provide appropriate lesson plans and activity supervision.
May deal with a wide range of student abilities and behaviors; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.
