About The Position

A private Catholic college preparatory high school in Southwest Detroit is seeking a full-time Science Teacher to join its faculty. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about supporting students academically, personally, and professionally while helping prepare them for success in college and beyond. The school serves a diverse student population and provides a rigorous, personalized curriculum integrated with a corporate work-study experience. Faculty and staff play a key role in building meaningful relationships with students and supporting their growth in a structured, mission-driven learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in the subject matter
  • Teaching certification required
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain calm, respectful, and professional communication with students, parents, faculty, and staff at all times

Nice To Haves

  • Highly Qualified status preferred
  • Experience in a high school classroom environment or equivalent experience
  • Experience with student database systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Developing and delivering engaging science instruction
  • Assessing student progress
  • Maintaining a positive classroom environment
  • Collaborating with faculty and staff to support student success
  • Developing engaging curriculum materials, including annual plans, lesson plans, and course syllabi
  • Utilizing network benchmarks to support course planning and instruction
  • Delivering science instruction in a high school classroom setting
  • Frequently assessing student work and provide meaningful feedback
  • Tracking, documenting, and communicating student academic progress
  • Communicating professionally with students, parents, faculty, and school leadership
  • Submitting weekly lesson plans
  • Preparing for and leading Parent Teacher Conferences three times per year
  • Attending faculty meetings and required school events
  • Developing and maintaining a classroom management strategy that supports discipline, structure, and a positive classroom atmosphere
  • Using the online grading system to manage student grades and performance records
  • Offering an extracurricular activity during flex time
  • Attending morning assembly beginning at 7:15 AM
  • Collaborating with academic leadership, student support staff, and work-study team members to support student success
  • Supporting school initiatives that enhance academic performance and student development
