About The Position

This position provides classroom instruction to high school students in the area of Worship Arts. Under the supervision of the HS Principal and Director of Fine Arts, this teacher is responsible for teaching beginning/intermediate instruction in keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, as well as leading students through a Worship Arts themed book with group discussions. This instructor is responsible for leading and developing the worship team to prepare them to lead their peers in worship for weekly chapels and student retreats. This instructor will work with administration, the Director of Fine Arts, the Performing Arts department, and students to ensure a positive and excellent experience for students and successful public performances. Each teacher at Village Christian School will incorporate a distinctly Christian worldview into their teaching and demonstrate excellent teaching, learning, thinking, and expression. It is also expected that a teacher has scholarly abilities in their area of teaching and will diligently work toward providing a CAREing, Christ-centered education producing students who thrive. Each classroom teacher is accountable to the chair of their department, the Principal, and ultimately the Head of School.

Requirements

A four-year education degree is required.

Nice To Haves

Master’s Degree in educational field and/or teaching credential is preferred.
Background/experience in leading worship in a church setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintains a disciplined learning environment within the classroom, built on respect, grace, and passion for their subject.
Is available to students and parents before and after school.
Teach the assigned sections: Introduction to Worship Arts and Worship Arts.
HS Introduction to Worship Arts: Develop musical skills for students interested in the Worship Arts class, learning basic chords and music skills in their instrument of choice, and earning Bible credit. This class will observe the Worship Arts Class and may occasionally perform with them. Performance during chapel time may be part of this course. Students will also earn Bible credit by reading the assigned book and participating in class discussions.
HS Worship Arts: Develop musical skills for students who will be leading worship for their peers in weekly chapels and student retreats. Each student is expected to have at least an intermediate level of skill in their instrument. Students will also earn Bible credit by reading the assigned book and participating in class discussions.
Attend rehearsals and performances, actively participating in assisting students in sectional and whole group rehearsals.
Assign equipment/instrument responsibilities to students.
Maintains an organization plan for each assigned course (subject matter outline, daily lesson plans, etc.).
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Adheres to the course outline as indicated in the curriculum and enriches the curriculum when possible.
Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments, providing appropriate feedback in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
Responsible for preparing grade reports, progress reports, and attendance reports in accordance with school policy.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
Be accessible to students as a “1:5 adult,” providing academic support, active listening, and advocacy, while observing appropriate boundaries.
Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings, and evening events as assigned by the administration.
Is willingly involved in the VCS community outside of school hours.
Continue to grow as a professional by attending in-service professional development activities.
Faithfully completes reasonable extra duty assignments (supervision, mentoring, office hours, etc.).
Executes all duties in a timely manner (holds class on time, meets deadlines, attends meetings on time, etc.).
Maintains a ‘team player’ attitude and willingly collaborates with colleagues and departmental teams.
Maintains cordial, professional relationships with all students, staff, parents, and community members.
Attends class overnight trips, as assigned by administration.
