About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is seeking an HS Assistant Boys Wrestling Coach for J.C. Harmon High School. This role is responsible for all levels and phases of the sport, ensuring that duties are completed correctly and on schedule. The coach will enforce all rules, supervise student athletes, maintain records, and implement practice schedules. This position requires a commitment to student safety, academic eligibility, and positive sportsmanship.

Requirements

  • Certified teacher or qualify for Rule 10 certification through the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Current certification in CPR and AED.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce all rules of the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
  • Supervise student athletes during all facets of participation to ensure activities are conducted in an environment with minimal risk of injury.
  • Maintain a variety of records for compliance with district, athletic conference, state, and KSHSAA requirements.
  • Verify that all necessary forms are completed before equipment is issued or practice begins.
  • Ensure all transfer students meet KSHSAA eligibility requirements.
  • Ensure all participating students have purchased the required activity ticket.
  • Implement and manage practice schedules, facility usage, and equipment assignments.
  • Supervise practice sessions and maintain locker room security.
  • Report all injuries of participants to proper school officials and follow injury reporting policies.
  • Support and follow the recommendations of athletic trainers.
  • Conform to established decisions and policy decisions of the school and USD 500.
  • Organize a system for uniform and equipment checkout, maintain inventory, and enforce rules regarding equipment care.
  • Inform administration of equipment needs.
  • Maintain records of evaluation procedures and assess student athletes for feedback and team placement.
  • Conduct and attend supporting activities such as league meetings, parent orientations, and recognition events.
  • Develop team and individual practice regimes to enhance performance.
  • Evaluate facilities and playing fields for potential hazards and recommend modifications.
  • Oversee coaching personnel and student managers, providing direction and monitoring activities.
  • Guide coaching personnel in instructional techniques, practice organization, and supervision.
  • Assign duties to coaching personnel and prepare written evaluations.
  • Advise coaching personnel, parents, and athletes on expectations of good sportsmanship.
  • Monitor student athlete academic eligibility and provide appropriate intervention for those needing assistance.
  • Report all team scores to appropriate media outlets and prepare public information releases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Athletic Director.
