About The Position

At KLS Martin, we are offering a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of a dynamic and thriving company. We are seeking an experienced HRIS & Payroll Financial Specialist to lead and support the configuration, deployment, and ongoing optimization of our HRIS and payroll systems. This role requires deep expertise in multi-state payroll processing, tax regulations, and financial controls, combined with hands-on experience implementing and maintaining HRIS platforms. The ideal candidate will act as a subject matter expert, ensuring system accuracy, compliance, and alignment with business and financial requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5–8 years of progressive experience in HRIS, payroll, or related roles
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with HRIS configuration, implementation, deployment, and ongoing system support
  • Extensive experience in payroll processing, including complex payroll environments and compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Strong background in financial and accounting principles as they relate to payroll, reconciliations, audits, and general ledger integration
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with HR, Finance, IT, and external vendors
  • Proven ability to act as a subject matter expert for HRIS and payroll systems, providing guidance, troubleshooting, and best-practice recommendations
  • Experience with major HRIS/payroll platforms such as Workday, ADP, UKG, or Paycom
  • Expert knowledge of HRIS and payroll systems, including configuration, deployment, integrations, upgrades, and ongoing system support
  • Advanced understanding of multistate payroll processes, wage and hour laws, and federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Strong financial and accounting expertise related to payroll, benefits, reconciliations, audits, and general ledger integration
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex HRIS and payroll issues with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk, ensure compliance, and implement effective controls
  • Proven ability to serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to HR, Finance, and leadership
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management, delivering high-quality system implementations and process improvements across complex, multi-state environments Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate technical and regulatory requirements into clear business guidance

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the HRIS subject matter expert, supporting system configuration, deployment, testing, and upgrades
  • Lead or contribute to HRIS implementations, enhancements, and integrations with payroll and finance systems
  • Translate business, HR, and payroll requirements into system configurations and functional solutions
  • Manage system security, roles, workflows, and data integrity
  • Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders on system issues, enhancements, and roadmap planning
  • Oversee or support end-to-end multi-state payroll processing with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance including salaried, hourly and commission-only employees
  • Ensure payroll processes comply with all applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Monitor changes in payroll legislation and tax requirements impacting a national workforce and assess system and process impacts
  • Ensure proper withholding, garnishments and benefit deductions
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll, tax, and regulatory issues
  • Apply strong financial and accounting principles to payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audits
  • Ensure payroll data aligns with general ledger, budgeting, and financial reporting requirements
  • Support internal and external audits related to payroll, tax, and HRIS controls
  • Develop and maintain documentation for payroll and HRIS processes, controls, and procedures
  • Create and maintain payroll, HR, and financial reports using HRIS and payroll systems
  • Analyze payroll and workforce data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Support leadership with accurate, timely insights related to payroll costs and compliance
  • Support insurance renewals
  • Support with internal and external payroll audits.
