About The Position

The HR Generalist is a highly detail-oriented, compliance-focused professional responsible for supporting both Talent Acquisition and core Human Resources operations in a multi-state environment. Approximately 30% of this role supports Talent Acquisition activities, with a strong emphasis on compliant hiring and onboarding across multiple jurisdictions. The remaining 70% supports HR Operations, employee relations, benefits, and regulatory compliance across all states in which the organization operates. This role requires strong knowledge of federal employment law and the ability to interpret and apply state and local employment requirements consistently and accurately.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of HR Generalist experience supporting multi-state employee populations
  • Strong working knowledge of federal employment laws and state-specific variations
  • Experience supporting recruiting and onboarding in multiple jurisdictions
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and discretion
  • Proven skills in both verbal and written communications
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Responsibilities

  • Support full-cycle recruiting operations with a focus on multi-state compliance
  • Ensure job postings meet federal, state, and local requirements including pay transparency, salary range disclosures, and EEO language
  • Coordinate background checks, reference verification, drug screening, I-9, and E-Verify in compliance with state-specific rules
  • Track and document hiring compliance requirements by state
  • Support onboarding execution ensuring state-required forms and notices are issued timely
  • Maintain accurate ATS documentation and audit recruiting records regularly
  • Assist with adverse action processes and required candidate notifications
  • Administer employee lifecycle changes across multiple states, ensuring compliance with applicable laws
  • Maintain accurate personnel records in accordance with federal and state record retention requirements
  • Support compliance with FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ACA, COBRA, workers’ compensation, and state-specific leave laws
  • Assist with I-9 audits, HR compliance audits, and internal risk assessments
  • Track state and local employment law changes and escalate impacts to HR leadership
  • Support employee relations matters with consistent documentation aligned to legal standards
  • Assist with benefits administration and leave management across state jurisdictions
  • Coordinate with payroll to ensure proper taxation, wage compliance, and state-specific deductions
  • Maintain high standards of HRIS data accuracy across multiple states
  • Support reporting related to headcount, turnover, compliance, and benefits eligibility
  • Audit HR data regularly to identify discrepancies by state or location
  • Support ACA tracking and reporting accuracy
  • Assist with drafting and maintaining state-specific and company-wide HR policies
  • Support handbook updates and distribution of required state addenda
  • Track completion of required compliance training and acknowledgments
  • Coordinate HR-led compliance initiatives across locations
