About The Position

The HR Generalist position is responsible for building and maintaining strong working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization while supporting their Human Resources needs. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank's mission is to mobilize resources to fight hunger in the community by sourcing and distributing nutritious food, energizing community involvement, and advocating for public policies. This role performs Human Resources duties in areas such as employee and labor relations within a unionized environment, employee safety, and HR administration and operations. It also involves handling impartial investigations into employee misconduct and managing various HR projects and initiatives, with a focus on creative solutions and innovation.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of HR Administrative or Supervisory experience (experience within a non-profit or distribution environment preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field (preferred).
  • Knowledge of CA employment and wage & hour laws.
  • Must be resourceful and possess strong analytical skills with the ability to think creatively to solve problems.
  • Ability to work cohesively as a team as well as work independently, demonstrating a service-first ethic.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented, highly adaptable and able to maintain challenging projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with strong emotional intelligence and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and Google Suite and use of the Internet.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS systems such as Paychex, ADP, etc.
  • Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to LARFB auto insurance carrier.
  • Effective consultative approach with employee relations issues; serves as the steward of talent assets of the organization to ensure an ethical and responsible approach in the decision-making process.
  • Tactful, empathetic and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good project management skills including the ability to manage tasks and accomplish goals in an expeditious manner.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required.
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s License and have access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
  • Ability to travel within Los Angeles County as required, with work assignments potentially including various facilities and hubs across Los Angeles County, and flexibility to commute between Food Bank facilities as needed.

  • PHR designation is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Human Resources duties in functional areas such as employee and labor relations within a unionized environment, employee safety, and HR administration and operations.
  • Handle impartial investigations into employee misconduct.
  • Manage a variety of HR projects and initiatives, considering creative solutions and collaborating with other teams to drive innovation in problem-solving.
  • Oversee, administer, and assist in the implementation of various HR functions such as employee and labor relations, training, and general HR duties within cross-functional teams.
  • Foster positive relationships between employees and management, addressing employee concerns, and ensuring fair treatment and compliance with labor laws and regulations.
  • Possess excellent investigation capabilities to engage in impartial disciplinary investigation meetings.
  • Ensure compliance to Wage & Hour, Employee Handbook, and Collective Bargaining Agreement for warehouse & drivers.
  • Oversee and manage HR projects and initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and achieve organizational goals.
  • Ensure that the organization complies with relevant employment laws, collective bargaining agreement, local and state regulations, and internal policies through audits, training, and policy development.
  • Manage and optimize HR systems and processes, ensuring data accuracy, and supporting system users to meet organizational needs efficiently.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate training programs to enhance employee skills, knowledge, and performance in areas such as legal compliance, safety, and HR policies.
