About The Position

This role provides hands-on employee relations support across the Mass Market South and Canada business unit. The HR Generalist will coach leaders through various employee performance and conduct issues, conduct objective workplace investigations, and partner with leaders to develop action plans and ensure timely resolution of concerns. The position also supports corrective action processes, reviews employee relations documentation for consistency and risk management, and identifies trends to recommend proactive solutions. Additionally, the role involves interpreting and applying HR policies, supporting compliance initiatives, and assisting with Canadian-specific HR policies. General HR support throughout the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, leaves, and offboarding, is also expected, along with contributing to broader HR projects and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment practices and employment standards, with the ability to navigate provincial differences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, including investigations, performance management, corrective action, and employment separations.
  • Excellent investigation, interviewing, documentation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong judgment and discretion when managing sensitive employee matters.
  • Ability to coach leaders through difficult and sometimes high-risk employee situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex HR or employment requirements in practical business terms.
  • Ability to balance employee advocacy, business needs, policy, and organizational risk.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple employee relations matters simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively partnering with HR leadership, HR Compliance, and other HR functions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent and accurate documentation.
  • 1-3 years of progressive HR, Employee Relations, or HR Generalist experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience supporting employees in Canada is required.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and managing complex employee relations matters.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on employee relations support across the Mass Market South and Canada business unit.
  • Coach leaders through employee performance, conduct, attendance, conflict, policy violations, and other workplace concerns.
  • Conduct objective and thorough workplace investigations, including employee interviews, fact gathering, documentation, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Partner with leaders to develop appropriate action plans and ensure timely resolution of employee concerns.
  • Support corrective action processes, including coaching, written warnings, performance improvement plans, and employment separations.
  • Review and provide guidance on employee relations documentation to promote consistency, fairness, and appropriate risk management.
  • Identify trends in employee relations activity and recommend proactive solutions to business and HR leadership.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality and documentation throughout employee relations processes.
  • Provide practical interpretation and application of HR policies across the business unit.
  • Support consistent application of company policies while recognizing jurisdictional differences in Canada.
  • Partner with HR leadership and Legal to evaluate potential employment risk and determine appropriate action.
  • Support HR compliance initiatives, audits, policy updates, and implementation of new employment requirements.
  • Assist with developing or updating Canadian-specific HR policies, processes, and manager resources as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation related to employee relations matters.
  • Provide general HR support throughout the employee lifecycle as needed, including onboarding, transfers, leaves, accommodations, organizational changes, and offboarding.
  • Partner with HR manager on broader people initiatives and employee matters.
  • Support organizational changes and other business initiatives requiring employee relations expertise.
  • Contribute to HR projects, process improvements, and initiatives that improve the employee experience and effectiveness of HR services.
