The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will serve as a strategic consultant to various areas of the business. You will be the primary point of contact for Employee Relations (ER) and Labor Relations (LR), ensuring that operational decisions align with both the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and the organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years of HR experience, with 2+ years in a unionized industrial environment preferred.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in HR, Industrial Relations, or Business strongly preferred. Understanding of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) regulations and state specific labor laws, strongly preferred.
  • Labor Savvy: Proven track record of managing grievances and participating in contract negotiations or administration.
  • Additional Skills: Professional communication, demonstration of sound situational judgement and composure, and the ability to gain credibility by working collaboratively and influencing.

Responsibilities

  • Labor Relations & CBA Administration
  • Contract Interpretation: Act as the onsite expert for the Collective Bargaining Agreement, advising supervisors on a variety of subjects including but not limited to, work rules, bidding, and overtime equalization with the intent to reduce grievances.
  • Grievance Management: Lead grievance meetings; investigate claims, facilitate resolutions, and partner with legal / Labor Relations Management for arbitrations.
  • Union Partnership: Maintain a professional, productive relationship with Union Stewards and leadership to resolve issues proactively, and consistently, before they escalate.
  • Employee Relations & Advocacy
  • Conflict Resolution: Mediate interpersonal disputes between employees or between staff and management to maintain a stable working environment.
  • Investigations: Lead internal investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, or policy violations, ensuring due process and detailed documentation.
  • Performance Coaching: Coach front-line supervisors on delivering feedback, managing "difficult" conversations, and executing the progressive discipline process fairly.
  • Strategic Workforce Planning
  • Training: Partner with HR leadership to create and facilitate trainings on a variety of topics to support all levels of the workforce.
  • Succession Planning: Identify high-potential employees for "Step-Up" lead roles and management tracks to ensure operational continuity.
  • HR Metrics: Assist in providing data regarding the workforce related to retention, areas of risk, policy / procedure improvements etc.
  • Change Management: Support the workforce through operational shifts, such as new technology implementation or changes in mining schedules.
