HPC – AI Networking Intern - Network Transport

Hewlett Packard Enterprise•Fort Collins, CO
•Hybrid

About The Position

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring an HPC – AI Networking Intern for its Network Transport work. The role is hybrid, requiring an average of two days per week at an HPE office. The intern will develop software for high-performance network telemetry, including telemetry ingestion, packet decoding, validation, normalization, data persistence, analytics, and tools for reconstructing network paths and calculating per-hop latency and congestion. The role also includes developing monitoring, health metrics, and visualization capabilities, and testing and characterizing telemetry collection systems in collaboration with networking, switch, software, and architecture teams.

Requirements

  • Be pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Have coursework or project experience in computer networking, operating systems, distributed systems, databases, or software engineering.
  • Have experience developing software in Python, C++, or similar programming languages.
  • Demonstrate the ability to design, debug, and test complex software systems.
  • Understand networking fundamentals, including Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, routing, and switching.
  • Be familiar with packet structures, protocol analysis, and packet capture tools.
  • Have knowledge of telemetry, monitoring, observability, or network analytics concepts.
  • Understand data storage, databases, and data processing pipelines.
  • Be familiar with Linux operating environments and software development tools.
  • Have strong software development and debugging skills.
  • Be able to analyze packet-level network data and troubleshoot protocol behavior.
  • Have experience using Linux development and diagnostic tools.
  • Be able to work with APIs, databases, and telemetry data pipelines.
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Have effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative engineering environment.
