About The Position

As the Housing Support Worker, you will promote housing stability for marginalized individuals, supporting their health, wellness, and community belonging. Promoting and demonstrating the vision, mission, and values of Indwell within the workplace and community. Indwell is a Christian charity founded in 1974 that serves people impacted by poverty and homelessness through its vision of HOPE and HOMES for All. It is the fastest growing developer in Ontario, creating affordable, high-quality, efficient housing communities coupled with supportive programs for over 1,400 tenants.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma
  • Recent Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) with the information therein acceptable by Indwell to meet the operational requirements of the program- at one’s own cost
  • TB Test required at one’s own cost
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification from an approved provider that meets Ontario provincial standards or willingness to register for the training within 30 days of employment-reimbursement by Indwell
  • Food Handler's Certificate
  • A warm, sensitive, and caring approach
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships and have a genuine interest in supporting people living with mental illness
  • Work independently, have strong problem-solving skills, be flexible, organized, responsible, and take initiative

  • Priority given to those with post-secondary education in the social sciences and/or residential experience

Responsibilities

  • Supporting individuals with life activities of daily living
  • Household duties: cooking (3 meals prepared by staff each day) and cleaning, other duties as assigned
  • Administering medication, recording daily shift notes
  • Maintaining a healthy and safe environment
  • Reinforcing residents’ life skills, spirituality, and social and community skills
  • Working as part of a team supporting individuals living in the residential care facility
