About The Position

The Ark-Tex Council of Governments (ATCOG) is seeking a Housing Specialist for its Housing Program office in Texarkana, Texas. This full-time position involves travel throughout the region and is responsible for providing Section 8 rental assistance, housing counseling, and social service referrals to eligible applicants and tenants within a designated outreach area of the ATCOG region. Applicants must identify how they meet the minimum qualifications and respond in detail to the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) outlined in the application.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in business, public administration or related field; OR High School Diploma or equivalent, plus 4 years demonstrated performance in public housing assistance programs or other social services programs; OR any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Knowledge of general office equipment required.
• Knowledge of use of a PC in a windows-based environment required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment required.
• Must possess the ability to work in a team environment and independently.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Must be organized and detail oriented.
• Skill to operate a computer with Microsoft office applications required.
• Ability to see, hear, reach, stoop, bend, and lift and carry up to 30 pounds required.
• Must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license subject to an approved motor vehicle report and reliable transportation with valid proof of insurance for travel within the ATCOG region.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of public housing rules and regulations preferred.
• Project Based Voucher experience preferred.
