The Housing Specialist plays a vital role in helping individuals and families overcome housing barriers and secure safe, stable, and affordable housing in the community. This position works closely with tenants throughout the housing process—from identifying housing opportunities and completing applications to lease signing, move-in, and ongoing housing stability.   • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Two years of experience in housing, human services, case management, social services, or a related field preferred/required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable, insured personal vehicle required.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with tenants through regular communication and follow-up.
  • Assess and monitor housing needs, identify barriers, and connect tenants with resources that promote long-term housing stability.
  • Partner with potential tenants to conduct an efficient and effective housing search and identify appropriate housing opportunities within the community.
  • Guide tenants through the housing process, including applications, documentation, and lease signings.
  • Educate and advocate for tenants regarding Fair Housing Laws, Tenant Rights, and Tenant Responsibilities.
  • Conduct initial and periodic inspections of housing units to help ensure safe and appropriate living environments.
  • Provide creative problem-solving and conflict-management support when challenges arise.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough documentation in accordance with funder and credentialing requirements.
  • Enter and maintain accurate information in all applicable electronic systems.
  • Use computer systems to enter and retrieve information and prepare reports, correspondence, and other required documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and community partners to support positive outcomes for tenants.
  • Recognize unusual, challenging, or potentially threatening situations and respond appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the organization.
