About The Position

To assist residents in our shelter as they secure permanent housing. This role is responsible for advocacy and providing assistance to clients in obtaining permanent housing. The specialist will initiate housing referrals to appropriate agencies, meet with clients regularly to develop housing strategies, and coordinate the permanent housing search while addressing any arising barriers. Additionally, the role involves coordinating and facilitating quarterly Housing Forums for landlords, brokers, and residents, as well as bi-weekly meetings with residents. The Housing Specialist will also conduct housing workshops for housing readiness, escort families to view apartments and meet prospective landlords and real estate brokers, and participate in weekly Interdisciplinary Team and Administrative meetings. Monthly reporting and ensuring documentation is reflected in client charts are key responsibilities. The specialist will initiate and identify housing resources for families in shelter and facilitate appropriate applications (e.g., 2010Es, Supportive Housing). This includes coordinating and case conferencing with internal and external programs for care coordination related to housing, and attending relevant DHS trainings and meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree and/or previous housing experience working with the housing disadvantaged populations.
  • Clean valid driver’s license with the ability to drive a 16 passenger van.
  • Exceptional communication skills both orally and in writing with individuals and groups regarding complex and sensitive issues.
  • Strong computer skills to create and utilize databases and spreadsheets.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Submit all monthly reporting in a timely manner.
  • Ensure documentation is reflected in the clients charts.
  • Initiate and identify housing resources for families in shelter and facilitate appropriate applications on their behalf (i.e. 2010Es, Supportive Housing, and other appropriate housing applications.
  • Coordinate and case conference with both internal and external programs to ensure care coordination as it relates to housing.
  • Attend appropriate DHS trainings and meetings as it relates to Housing.
