About The Position

The Housing Organizer is a key member of the Dream.Org Advocacy team, working under the direction of the Senior Director of National Campaigns to develop and execute strategies that lead to the creation of more affordable housing - both from the supply side, and specifically housing that supports justice-impacted communities. In this role, you will identify, recruit, and develop community members into effective advocates and work with them to bring system change through organizing, legislative advocacy, and community education. The Dream.Org housing campaign is currently running in four states: Arizona, New York, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The Housing Organizer will work with directly impacted leaders on the ground and coalition allies across all four states, with support from other staff based in those states. Note: This is a 1-Year funded position through the Fall of 2027 with continued employment contingent on funding.

Requirements

  • At least two years working on legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing, or social justice/political campaigns
  • Sophistication around a variety of campaign tactics, including in-person actions and online actions that educate and advocate for change
  • An understanding of the legislative process and political landscape dynamics
  • Comfort with online tools associated with campaigns, such as Asana, Salesforce, Slack, and Google suite
  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice; we value the lived experience of applicants
  • Must be willing and available to travel occasionally
  • Track record of executing community events on and offline
  • Familiarity with coalition leadership and recruitment
  • Willingness to work on common ground, bipartisan campaigns

Responsibilities

  • Execute on-the-ground campaign events and remote gatherings, such as educational community convenings and training
  • Lead state legislative advocacy efforts in Wisconsin to advance the organization’s mission and policy goals.
  • Cultivate trusted relationships with policymakers, lobbyists, nonprofit leaders, and other stakeholders to build support for priority legislation.
  • Coordinate cross-sector advocacy efforts to align messaging, strategy, and legislative outreach.
  • Track legislative activity and guide opportunities for engagement to help move bills over the finish line.
  • Serve as a visible representative of the organization in legislative meetings, hearings, and coalition discussions.
  • Collaborate with digital organizers to create engaging online campaign content and action opportunities
  • Assist with advocacy skills training for directly impacted individuals and other stakeholders
  • Draft campaign materials, such as toolkits and one-pagers
