About The Position

The Salvation Army Hagerstown Shelter is seeking candidates to fill the role of Housing Monitor. This part-time position, working approximately 28 hours per week, is responsible for monitoring resident activity to ensure safety, security, and compliance with house rules. The role involves maintaining accurate records, ensuring the shelter is kept in order, and assisting residents with various needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One (1) year experience performing security or social service work preferred, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
  • Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor resident activity to ensure safety, security, and compliance with house rules.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and logs.
  • Ensure the lodge/shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order.
  • Ensure all rooms are in proper order before resident arrival.
  • Check fire equipment and ensure proper working order.
  • Check clients into the lodge/shelter and prepare/monitor client intake.
  • Prepare resident roster and maintain resident property records.
  • Distribute towels, linens, and personal hygiene items.
  • Secure and distribute client medications as required.
  • Collect linen, towels, and washcloths from residents.
  • Check the security of all windows and doors.
  • Monitor cameras and make periodic rounds of the facility.
  • Record any unique situations occurring on the assigned shift.
  • Respond to emergencies calmly and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
  • Open and close lodge/shelter doors at designated hours.
  • Complete required paperwork for client intake.
  • Assign housekeeping and other tasks to residents and ensure proper completion.
  • Answer telephone and respond to questions regarding lodge/shelter operations.
  • Wake up residents at designated times and ensure they collect their sheets.
  • Ensure all residents are out of the lodge/shelter by the designated time.
  • Administer drug testing and breathalyzer tests to clients as needed.
  • Clean, sweep, and mop lobby, hall, television room, and patios.
  • Empty trash cans and replace trash liners.
  • Direct clients to social services for their special needs.
