About The Position

This position is responsible for accepting and processing residents staying in shelter overnight. The Housing Monitor will monitor the activity of residents on an assigned shift, ensuring safety, security, and compliance with house rules. This role also involves maintaining accurate and complete records and logs with pertinent information, and ensuring the shelter is kept neat and orderly.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• One year experience performing security work or working in a social service environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
• Ability to communicate with residents in order to lead and motivate behavior.
• Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision while enforcing polices and procedures.
• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper procedures.

Responsibilities

• Checks residents into the shelter; prepares and monitors residents and maintains residents' records.
• Monitors the activities of the shelter residents ensuring safety and compliance with shelter rules; checks the security and make periodic rounds of the entire facility.
• Assists with collecting and entering data into the HMIS database.
• Answers telephone and respond to questions regarding the shelter operations.
• Prepares and serves meals to residents as well as cleaning kitchen and dining area afterwards.
• Performs other related work as required.
