About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of support functions to ensure the safety, security, comfort, and wellbeing of Salvation Army emergency shelter clients. The role involves ensuring shelter clients adhere to house rules, monitoring building security, performing light housekeeping duties to maintain orderly and clean common areas, and maintaining the daily shelter log. The position typically involves a non-traditional schedule of evening and overnight shifts.

Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
One year experience performing security or social service work preferred
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Responsibilities

Monitors the activities of shelter clients, ensuring their safety, comfort, and compliance with house rules.
Supports inclement weather shelter operations, to include preparing sleeping and dining areas prior to shelter opening; maintaining an orderly client check-in waiting line; conducting the client intake process; distributing items for clients’ personal use like blankets; cleaning the sleeping and dining areas as needed throughout the shift.
Regulates lights out/curfew/quiet hours for the safety and comfort of shelter clients.
Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Performs light housekeeping duties to ensure orderly, clean common areas.
Maintains the daily shelter log.
