The Housing Lead Maintenance Worker performs routine duties and extensive preventive maintenance and repairs on Government and Echo Cliffs quarters, mechanical equipment, and utility systems associated with housing units. The position works under the guidance and direction of the Housing Manager or designee and is provided tools, supplies, and equipment needed to complete assignments. Compared with a Maintenance Worker, the lead role has greater responsibility and may include directing colleagues, establishing priorities, assigning tasks, coordinating projects, and monitoring field work. The employee attends department meetings and may be subject to emergency callback after regular working hours, on holidays, and on weekends. The work covers carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing repairs, HVAC and refrigeration maintenance, and grounds and other maintenance tasks. The employee must recognize and troubleshoot maintenance problems, determine appropriate repairs, follow safety precautions, and document maintenance results or work requests as applicable. The role involves interacting and communicating with tenants and the public in person, by telephone, and in writing. TCRHCC applies the Navajo Preference in Employment Act and its Affirmative Action Plan. Qualified applicants who are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe receive hiring and employment preference; qualified spouses meeting residency requirements receive secondary preference; and enrolled members of other federally recognized American Indian Tribes receive tertiary preference.
