About The Position

The Holiday Inn in Auburn has an immediate opening for a full time Houseperson who will work 4 shifts total - Wednesday/Thursday 2:30pm - 11pm and Saturday/Sunday 6am - 2:30pm. The houseperson is responsible for light maintenance duties during the shift as well as the cleanliness and upkeep of the hotel and the grounds. This involves emptying the property trash receptacles, housekeeping cart trash, outside trash receptacles and pick up parking lot trash. Other duties include vacuuming, carpet shampooing and assisting the maintenance department with projects such as mattress rotation, painting and deep cleaning. This position also involves interactions with guests, helping with luggage, taking items to guest rooms and serving as evening troubleshooter for maintenance issues. Communication skills are paramount, and the ability to comfortably communicate with the front desk staff and hotel guests is key to this role. Candidates need to have an attention to detail and have basic maintenance skills. The position of Houseperson works inside and outside of the hotel in the common areas although there may be times that require work in guest rooms and meeting rooms. The cleanliness of the hotel is a key to meeting our hotel brand quality and guest standards. Thus, attention to every job detail is very important to the success of the hotel and achieving and exceeding job performance requirements. The Houseperson is helpful and friendly to guests and coworkers. This position is required work days and evenings, weekends and holidays during your regular scheduled days.

Requirements

  • Must be able to arrive to work on time when scheduled.
  • Basic reading and writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate and understand coworkers, supervisors, and guests in English.
  • Ability to read and identify correct chemical product labels for proper cleaning needs.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to be cooperative with coworkers and supervisor.
  • Ability to work in a standing, walking, and climbing stairs for long periods.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop frequently.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds to shoulder height.
  • Ability to see, read and have fine motor skills to grasp tools, paper, knobs, key cards, etc.
  • Ability to speak clearly and hear to interact with guests and other employees in person, phone, and walkie-talkie.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull 50 pounds occasionally throughout shift (help with furniture moves, mattress rotation, etc).
  • Some maintenance skills, basic painting skills, basic electrical to check TVs, HVAC units, refrigerators and lightbulbs, basic plumbing - knowledge to unclog toilets and drains.
  • Ability to walk the property - inside and out.
  • Ability to keep up with the demands of the department.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
