About The Position

Provides cleaning services to provide a safe sanitary, comfortable and homelike environment for residents, staff and the public. Housekeeping services provided are in accordance with facility policies and procedures and consistent with state and federal laws and regulations to maintain an environment that enhances the quality of life for residents.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience with healthcare housekeeping or environmental services preferred

Responsibilities

  • Sweeps, damp mops, and wet mops tile floors. May occasionally be required to spray buff, strip or wax floors, following center procedures, including the use of wet floor signs.
  • Vacuums carpeted rooms as applicable.
  • Empties trash cans, cleans exterior, cleans interior, and replaces with a clean can liner.
  • Cleans bathroom sinks, fixtures, and toilets, following center procedures.
  • Cleans glass surfaces such as mirrors, pictures, and windows.
  • Cleans behind and underneath furnishings.
  • Follows infection control standards while performing cleaning.
  • Prevents/removes wax/dirt buildup in corners, around baseboards, and in doorways.
  • Changes soiled privacy curtains and draperies for the outside windows as needed.
  • Removes and re-hangs curtains and draperies for the outside windows, using a ladder.
  • Dust/damp cleans surfaces in patient/resident rooms (furniture, bed frames, windowsills, etc.) following center procedure, including the use of wet floor signs.
  • Moves furniture to clean behind/underneath, according to center procedures.
  • Turns bed mattresses after cleaning.
  • Reports to supervisor any carpeted areas that need cleaning or spot removal.
  • Cleans dining area after breakfast and lunch; wipes tables, sweeps, mops, etc.
  • Sweeps outside porches, walkways, etc. Picks up any trash not properly disposed.
  • Follows cleaning schedules as set by supervisor.
  • Uses isolation techniques (gowns, gloves, special cleaning, etc.) as needed.
  • Recognizes patient/resident rights while cleaning patient/resident rooms.
  • Treats patients/residents and their belongings with dignity and respect.
  • Honors patients’ residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.
  • Safeguards chemicals used, keeping chemicals either locked or in sight.
  • Follows precautions as stated on MSDS for chemicals used.
  • Assists in the proper care and use of housekeeping equipment, supplies, and storage areas.
  • Cleans and properly stores equipment used at the end of each shift, following set procedures.
  • Inspect equipment prior to use to provide for safe operation.
  • Maintains adequate supplies (soap, lotion, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc.) in bathrooms throughout the facility.
  • Participates in center/agency surveys (Licensure / JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in your field as well as to maintain current license/certification, as required.
  • Attends and participates in mandatory in-services.
  • Complies with corporate compliance program.
  • Reports job-related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards including exposure to blood and body fluids and others as necessary.
  • Follows established safety regulations, to include fire protection & prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.
  • Follows established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment.
