Housekeeping Intern
About The Position
The Blackbird Farmhouse Assistant will assist the Farm Manager and will perform all housekeeping duties at the farm. The Farmhouse Assistant may assist the kitchen department when necessary. The Farmhouse Assistant will report directly to the Farm Manager. Located on 240 stunning acres in Mendocino, California, Blackbird Farm is a certified organic non-profit homestead offering students the chance to learn about and experience sustainable living and healthy eating while connecting with nature and peers. With a large kitchen, BBF’s programs provide farm-to-table instruction with classes in cheese making, mustard and jam making, and bread making, using organic ingredients grown onsite in the garden and student maintained farm plot. The farm’s year-round staff teaches students gardening fundamentals and the knowledge and skills needed to create raised garden beds to maintain at their school site and homes. The exhilarating high ropes and zip line course encourages students to safely test their limits while developing critical communication and collaboration skills, confidence, and trust.
Requirements
- Professional, mature, and experienced in working with a wide range of populations (experience with both youth and adult clients)
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision
- Good communication skills
- Able to work independently of others with minimal supervision
- Must be available to work weekends and nights
- The employee must pass TB test and Livescan background clearance
- Must hold a valid driver’s license for at least the past 3 years and have a clean driving record
Responsibilities
- Follow all farm standards and guidelines
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the farmhouse at all times
- Assures all bathrooms and showers on the premises are kept clean and stocked with soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
- Makeup, maintain, and turn over all cabins for guests when necessary and in a timely manner
- Keeping all yurt and cabin laundry in good condition by washing, drying, and folding
- Keep the events barn clean and organized by sweeping and mopping
- Assist in cleaning tasks in the kitchen when needed
- Assist the kitchen staff with food preparation when needed
- Assist the programming staff with cleaning the yurts
- Manage a weekly schedule of necessary housekeeping duties and accomplish them in a timely manner
- Keep an inventory of cleaning supplies and other housekeeping items and communicate with the appropriate departments to order these supplies
- Assist with other functions and duties as assigned
- Greet our guests with a smile and express a genuine appreciation for them
