Requirements

  • Successful completion of Grade 10
  • Ability to operate appropriate mechanical equipment i.e. washer, dryer, vacuum cleaner
  • Understanding of infection control principles
  • Working Knowledge of: WHMIS, Inventory Management & Control
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Experience in an institutionalized setting preferably long term care

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining Clean and Safe Environment removing waste adhering to legislative requirements (e.g., WHMIS) vacuuming, dusting, emptying wastebaskets, rearranging furniture daily cleaning and disinfecting all resident areas sweeping/mopping floors spot cleaning infection control mixing cleaning solutions using appropriate levels of supplies heavy cleaning (windows and walls) preparing rooms for new residents (deep cleaning) reporting on broken equipment and building repair needs
  • Maintaining Stock and Supplies monitoring inventory of supplies ordering supplies when required replenishing supplies
  • Customer Service ensuring resident privacy respecting resident’s property advocating on behalf of the resident
  • Occupational Health and Safety Accountabilities Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy. Follow safe work practices as directed by their supervisor and as required by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation. Participate in all required occupational health and safety training. Use appropriate equipment and wear personal protective equipment or clothing, as required by Extendicare/ParaMed. Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor. Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk.
