About The Position

The Housekeeper, within the Environmental Services Department, is responsible for performing routine and terminal cleaning of various areas within the organization, including patient rooms, offices, clinical areas, and common spaces. This role requires adherence to strict infection control practices, proper use of chemicals and equipment, and maintaining high-quality standards to ensure a clean, neat, and sanitary environment. The position also involves transporting waste, replenishing supplies, and performing floor care. The Housekeeper must be able to follow instructions, work independently and cooperatively, and maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School degree (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience with housekeeping and environmental services duties, to include janitorial/custodial duties, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Must be available for on-call.
  • Must be able to concentrate on work amidst distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic.
  • Must be able to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Must be flexible in work hours.
  • Ability to maintain self-control in volatile or hostile customer services interactions.
  • General knowledge and understanding of safety procedures.
  • Must have skills in maintaining information as highly confidential.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp.
  • Ability to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching.
  • Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word.
  • Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction.
  • Ability to perceive detailed information orally and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction.
  • Ability to handle interruptions often and move from one task to another.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning of inpatient and outpatient patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, activity rooms, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, courtyards, corridors, and parking lots.
  • Perform terminal/detailed cleaning of patient and exam rooms.
  • Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Utilize appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
  • Use and maintain equipment properly.
  • Report safety hazards.
  • Transport trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal areas.
  • Replenish supplies.
  • Follow all infection control practices.
  • Maintain set quality standards.
  • Work day or evening shifts as assigned.
  • Maintain age-specific safety precautions.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Read and understand equipment operation manuals.
  • Clean and maintain carpet and tiled floors using heavy equipment.
  • Clean cafeteria tables and floors daily; degrease kitchen floors and baseboards nightly.
  • Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
