About The Position

As a member of the Geneva College Facilities Department, the Housekeeper cleans an assigned building or set of buildings on a regular basis during Fall and Spring semesters. Team cleaning of various buildings may occur during other times. Also included are set-ups for events and related coordination. Duties vary somewhat depending on weather and season.

Requirements

  • Constantly walking, regularly climbing, constantly stooping, constantly reaching, regularly pushing, regularly feeling, occasionally crawling, occasionally crouching, regularly lifting, regularly pulling, constantly standing, kneeling, regularly carrying, occasionally handling, occasionally talking, constantly hearing, constantly seeing, and occasionally sitting.
  • Able to regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  • Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One or more years of custodial experience.
  • Possess a basic knowledge of principles and practices of custodial work, supplies and equipment.
  • Demonstrates customer service principles of hospitality and professionalism.
  • Ability to organize work corresponding to written or verbal instructions that may include floor plans or spreadsheets.
  • An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. An eligible candidate must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.

Nice To Haves

  • Custodial experience in a higher education setting or school setting.
  • Two or more years of custodial experience and a solid knowledge of principles and practices of custodial work, supplies, and equipment.
  • Experience with setup for events.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans bathrooms, offices, classrooms, and hallways. Empties trash and cleans windows and chalkboards.
  • Makes minor maintenance repairs or identifies and refers specialized needs to Facilities supervision.
  • Dusts, sweeps, and mops.
  • Cleans kitchen areas, lounges, and laundry areas, if applicable.
  • Sets up for events including moving of furniture. Places decorative features and table linens.
  • Coordinates what work is done by student labor for cleaning or for setups.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Ongoing growth in the knowledge of custodial/ housekeeping practices and procedures, operation of floor-cleaning equipment such as buffers, the operation of cleaning equipment and use of cleaning chemicals, minor maintenance techniques and the safe use of cleaning materials and equipment.
