About The Position

Under administrative direction, the housekeeping staff ensures that the facility is maintained in such a way to provide for a continuous clean and sanitary environment for the residents, guests and employees of the nursing home. The sanitation and cleaning of the physical environment must be in accordance with state, federal, corporate, and facility standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Some knowledge of common household cleaning devices and solutions is required.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 51-100 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 50 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% of the workday) 20 lbs.
  • Employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows. Employees are required to take a Computer Skills Assessment via the learning management system upon hire. Based on the results of the assessment, an employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and services units, rooms, baths, showers, tubs, special areas and offices, halls, walls, entrance, ceilings, windows, and furniture of all kinds.
  • Cleans, mops, vacuums, applies floor finish and cleans carpet. Is taught to use floor equipment such as floor machines and different cleaning pads. Carpet cleaning equipment, pre-spotting and stain removal.
  • Damp dusts furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion. Cleans and polishes bathtubs, water closets, showers, mirrors and similar equipment in resident areas.
  • Public restrooms and day rooms. Cleans and polishes glass panels indoors and partitions. Keeps utility and storage areas in good order and clean. Neat, orderly arrangement of equipment and supplies. Clean exteriors of refrigerators and cabinets.
  • Perform a variety of related duties in total cleaning of any unoccupied rooms.
  • Housekeeping is responsible for the washing of walls, ceilings, windows, floors, etc.
  • Cleaning of the complete resident area. Cleaning of the unit overbed table, beside stand, chairs and light covers. Supplies are placed in the clean unit and bed made with clean linens for new resident.
  • Daily cleaning of unit except for changing linens on the occupied bed. Damp dusting with germicidal solution. Complete resident unit and anything considered a resident unit.
  • All hard surfaces cleaned including stands, wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, scales, foot boards, carts and chairs. Any other related nursing care items.
  • General housekeepers are expected to learn and know Isolation Techniques.
  • General housekeeping employees are required to work any and all shifts of the department.
  • General housekeeping employees are expected to respond to any reasonable requests from supervision.
  • Has a responsibility for total cleaning and service to the assigned area.
  • Responsibility for keeping equipment clean and reporting any equipment not working properly or is a possible safety hazard.
  • Efficient use of all equipment and supplies. Supplies are to be used in prescribed use methods.
  • Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis and perform tasks despite frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to perform tasks with due consideration for residents in the areas.
  • Some initiative and judgment are involved in maintaining assigned area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Working with safe work habits for self, co-workers and residents.
  • Works with close supervision performing simple, standardized tasks determined by immediate supervisor.
  • Ensures the resident’s right to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, dignity, property and civil rights, including the right to lodge a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all protected health information (PHI) to assure the resident’s rights are protected.
  • Reports any and all violations or suspected violations of the resident’s rights including abuse, neglect and misappropriation of property immediately to the supervisor or administrator.
