About The Position

The Housekeeper performs high cleaning of the building’s interior spaces, including high dusting for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. The housekeeper performs general cleaning of all interior spaces, including but not limited to the cleaning of tile and carpet floors, and daily maintenance of the museum’s sack-lunch space. He/she assists with building set-up and tear down, as needed. The Children’s Museum is building and sustaining an inclusive culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates differences. Requirements

  • Two (2) years’ experience in industrial or large public facility housekeeping.
  • Must possess a proven track record of strong customer service.
  • Must be able to work holidays, nights and weekends when scheduled.
  • Must be able to vary normal work schedule, as needed, to provide adequate coverage or the museum. 5. Must possess operational knowledge of and experience using commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Must possess the analytical skills to use telephones, keep accurate and up to date written records, and possess some knowledge of computer systems, and two-way radio systems. Special consideration given to those applicants who are multi-lingual.
  • Must be able to view computer monitor, facilities related documents and make observations of museum, visitors, and other equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate extensively via telephone, one-on-one conversations, and two-way radios with visitors, staff, and museum guests.
  • Must be able to able to respond to on-call alerts, as needed.
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects (at minimum 50 lbs.), stock inventory and other museum supplies.
  • Must also be able to accomplish both low and high cleaning of the building (ground level to thirty feet high).

Responsibilities

  • Consistently performs regular housekeeping. Responsible for attention to detail, and consistent and thorough cleaning of an assigned portion of the museum, including bathrooms, floors, trash removal, and other necessary tasks. Removes stains, spills and/or gum from floors throughout the day, including the occasional bodily fluid clean up.
  • Responsible for cleaning floors, tables, chairs, and walls in sack lunch space. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of lounges and meeting rooms.
  • Responsible for inspecting, stocking, supplying, and cleaning of restrooms throughout each day. Daily inspections of all assigned areas of the building, reporting and items to be corrected, to the appropriate person.
  • Assists in set-ups for rooms and events, as required.
  • Maintains cleanliness of janitor closets, keeping them neat in appearance and fully stocked. Maintains housekeeping equipment in good, operational condition.
  • Responsible for operating floor equipment to clean floors in sack-lunch area, lounge areas and restrooms. Removal of cleaning supplies and materials from shipping/receiving dock.
  • Assists with outside grounds maintenance including snow removal, weeding and lot pick up as needed.
