About The Position

The Housekeeping Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of general housekeeping and cleaning duties in various areas to maintain the community in a sanitary, safe, attractive, and orderly condition. This role involves following cleaning schedules, performing emergency housekeeping, and ensuring all areas are cleaned and disinfected according to established procedures. The position also includes tasks such as changing linens, arranging furniture, replenishing supplies, and assisting with inventory.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, understand and speak the English language.
  • Must be able to operate/utilize basic housekeeping equipment and supplies.
  • Must be able to work with other housekeeping assistants, elderly residents, families, and other health care staff.
  • Must be able to adhere to all terms and conditions set forth in the United Church Homes Employee Handbook.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Preferred
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Performs all housekeeping/cleaning duties in offices, resident rooms, restrooms, activity rooms, kitchen, service entrance, therapy rooms, entrances and exits, utility areas, closets, lounges, breakrooms, lobbies, and halls.
  • Performs emergency housekeeping.
  • Cleans, dusts, washes, and disinfects fixtures, floors, walls, doors, and ceilings.
  • Scours and polishes furnishings and fixtures.
  • Changes slip covers, scarves, and doilies when soiled.
  • Arranges furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion.
  • Cleans ledges, shelves, vents, and windows.
  • Removes and re-hangs curtains, drapes, and dividers for cleaning.
  • Replenishes soap and towels.
  • Empties and cleans waste baskets.
  • Works with personnel/services floors in resident rooms, baths, lounges, nurses’ stations, and offices.
  • Oversees terminal cleaning duties in resident rooms when a resident has been discharged or transferred and prepares rooms for new occupants.
  • Oversees cleaning duties in isolation units when a resident is transferred.
  • Vacuums and shampoos carpeting and rugs.
  • Assists in quarterly inventory process.
  • Follows all appropriate safety and security guidelines, procedures, and protocols for residents in Special Care Units.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or directed.
