About The Position

This position is responsible for cleaning floors, including vacuuming, sweeping, dust mopping, washing, stripping, waxing, and buffing. The role also involves shampooing carpets, washing windows, walls, chalkboards, and trash cans, as well as dusting furniture, fixtures, and woodwork. Responsibilities include collecting and emptying trash receptacles, picking up litter, and removing biological waste. The housekeeper will also clean, sanitize, and stock bathrooms, change and clean shower curtains, and replace light bulbs. Operation of basic cleaning equipment such as low-speed buffers, burnishing machines, extractors, auto scrubbing machines, and wet vacuums is required. Additional duties include moving furniture, performing routine maintenance on electrical, heating, vents, and fixtures, assisting in snow removal, and assisting in training and overseeing helpers. Other related duties as necessary may also be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school education desirable.
  • General knowledge and skills related to routine housekeeping and maintenance work.
  • Ability to perform tasks in specific sequences.
  • Physical ability to do heavy custodial work and operate cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow written instructions, chemical labels and warnings.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and to deal courteously with students, faculty and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial/institutional cleaning experience desirable.
