About The Position

The Salvation Army Kate Booth House is seeking a part-time housekeeper to perform janitorial duties and ensure the facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner. This role is crucial in providing a welcoming and caring environment for women and children at risk of violence. This is a temporary position to cover a maternity leave, operating on an overnight shift from Sunday to Thursday, 11:30 PM to 8:00 AM. Due to the nature of the work in a women's shelter, this position is restricted to female applicants to ensure client privacy, dignity, and safety.

Requirements

Completion of Secondary School.
Up to 1 year of prior related experience including custodial and life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.
Training in First Aid and WHMIS.
Ability to communicate effectively in English.
Criminal Record Check for working with children and/or vulnerable adults.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Self-motivated and reliable.
Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
Effective organizational and time management skills.
Respectful behaviour and positive attitude towards residents and clients.
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Good listening and interpersonal skills.
Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.
Able to work overnight/midnight shift.

Responsibilities

Perform light cleaning duties to maintain defined work areas.
Empty garbage receptacles, put garbage out for designated days, and return recycling and composite bins.
Vacuum carpets, sweep tiled areas, wash floors and baseboards, clean windows and ledges, and dust offices and furnishings.
Wipe down tables, chairs, and door handles; move and dust furniture as required.
Maintain laundry, including beddings, towels, and donations, monitoring for issues and ensuring replacement of items.
Ensure kitchen cleanliness, clean and polish sinks, toilets, countertops, mirrors, and fixtures.
Clean washrooms, restock supplies, and distribute received materials.
Identify and report any repairs requiring external service providers to the supervisor.
Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
Perform minor repairs such as changing light bulbs, unblocking toilets, troubleshooting flushing issues, wall patch-painting, and light furniture fixing.
Spot wash walls, strip and wax floors, perform spot cleaning, and shampoo carpets as needed.
Maintain parkade cleanliness.
Ensure the general upkeep of external property, including clearing snow and ice, salting, litter pick-up, cleaning external doors and entrance areas, and maintaining the storage shed.
Monitor and maintain mixed cleaner bottles for custodial use, ensuring WHMIS-compliant labeling.
Keep the laundry area clean and safe by adhering to health and safety standards.
Contribute to the overall safety of staff, volunteers, donors, clients, and guests by clearing fire exits and cleaning spills.
Use prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed.
Report any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illnesses immediately.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Support the overnight Residential Support Worker in an emergency situation.
Be aware of the security system.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
