About The Position

The Housekeeper I is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital. This entry-level position performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to ensure patient rooms, offices, hallways, and other assigned areas meet established cleanliness and infection control standards. The Housekeeper I plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Requirements

  • Physical ability to perform tasks that involve standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and the use of housekeeping equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Speech: Required to communicate with supervisor and patients.
  • Vision: Ability to see soiled carpet, digital pager messages, assignments, etc..
  • Smell: Ability to detect foul odors, helpful to note presence of electrical/fire safety.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear alarms, voice pager messages.
  • Touch: Ability to feel heat or cold with hands.
  • Up to 10 lbs: Continuously
  • Up to 20 lbs: Frequently
  • Up to 35 lbs: Occasionally

  • Putting away supplies, sometimes overhead. Mops and brooms - carried 10', knee high; vacuums - carried 1', ankle high; chairs (35#) carried 10', waist high.
  • Repetitive use of hands (Frequency indicated): Simple grasp up to 15 lbs.
  • Pushing & pulling Normal weight: 50-200#
  • Fine Manipulation: Wringing out cloths.
  • Repetitive use of foot or feet in operating machine control: 50 lbs of pressure - vacuum, locking carts

Nice To Haves

  • Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience in a healthcare or hospitality setting is a plus but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning and disinfecting of patient rooms, restrooms, offices, corridors, waiting areas, and other assigned areas following established housekeeping protocols.
  • Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors and surfaces to maintain cleanliness and appearance.
  • Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, handrails, and furniture to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Remove trash, soiled linens, and biohazard waste from designated areas and dispose of them according to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, and hand sanitizers in patient rooms and common areas.
  • Follow infection control and safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Report any safety hazards, damaged equipment, or maintenance needs to the Housekeeping Supervisor/Manager.
  • Assist in preparing rooms for new admissions by making beds, changing linens, and restocking supplies.
  • Respond to housekeeping requests from staff and patients promptly and professionally.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development sessions to maintain knowledge of housekeeping best practices and safety standards.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.
