About The Position

Northwest Texas Healthcare System is a 495-bed system serving the city of Amarillo and the surrounding region, offering a combination of traditional values and advanced healthcare technologies. The Env Svcs Wkr/Housekeeper position is responsible for cleaning duties to maintain a clean and aseptic environment throughout the hospital. This role may involve assignments as a patient areas cleaner, non-patient areas cleaner, trash technician, special care unit cleaner, or other positions as needed. The individual must maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with patients (including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics), their families, and coworkers. The position requires a willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks continually, accept supervision from multiple individuals, and perform tasks despite frequent interruptions, always with due consideration for patients, staff, and visitors. Immediate and reactive planning is required, including making judgments on task feasibility and ensuring adequate supplies and equipment. The role operates under close supervision, performing simple, standardized tasks, and requires adherence to safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and communicate in English both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions
  • Ability to record completed assignments
  • A high school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and servicing areas in building according to the assignments for that area
  • Sweeping, mopping, dusting and disinfecting any and all rooms in the hospital
  • Participating in project work including, but not limited to, wall washing, window washing, cleaning light fixtures, cleaning upholstery, changing cubicle curtains and drapes, cleaning vents, scrubbing restrooms, floor stripping, and carpet extracting
  • Maintaining a professional demeanor in accordance with service excellence standards while interacting with patients, patient’s families (including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics), and coworkers
  • Working within the safety policies and procedures as defined by Medi-Dyn and Northwest Texas Healthcare System’s standards
  • Reporting any unsafe working conditions or hazards to management immediately
  • Performing immediate and reactive planning that may include consideration for patients, staff and visitors
  • Exercising immediate judgment as to whether a particular task can be performed at a particular time or whether one can return to that task in the immediate future or not
  • Assuring that the adequate amount of supplies and equipment are available to complete the task assigned
  • Following any other job related instructions and performing any other job related duties requested by supervisors
