The House Supervisor is responsible for participating, observing, and acting as a resource to staff for patient-related clinical and service problems. This role collaborates with physicians to ensure optimal patient care and effective resource utilization, and supports staff in problem-solving patient service and unit issues. The House Supervisor acts as a patient advocate by responding to and intervening in patient and visitor concerns. They initiate investigations of patient incidents and medication errors, ensuring proper documentation and corrective action plans. This position also acts as a liaison for staff to ensure processes are in place for patients to receive an optimal level of care, collaborating with nurse managers, department managers, medical staff, and hospital administration. They identify trends in system problems and notify the manager of the unit. The House Supervisor assists with patient admission, transfer, and discharge, obtaining patient reports and evaluating patient status. They respond to internal and external public relations issues, maintaining guest relations and directing media appropriately. This role ensures compliance with regulatory agency standards and intervenes during the absence of the Safety Officer or Patient Safety Officer when conditions immediately threaten life or health. The position involves performing patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique, and demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served.
