The Facility Nursing House Supervisor is responsible for maintaining continuity of patient care in the absence of the unit nurse managers/directors in all areas of the hospital. This role supervises and coordinates activities of hospital personnel to maintain the continuity of a safe and efficient standard of care. The supervisor makes patient care assignments according to staff ability and patient needs, evaluates care given by others, and maintains accountability for their own care and care delegated to others. They adhere to ethical and legal standards and seek assistance from appropriate resources when needed. The House Supervisor visits nursing units to oversee nursing care, evaluates patient conditions, and assesses census and acuity levels. They collaborate with the Resource Optimization Center (ROC) and other department leaders for patient care assignments. In conjunction with supply chain leadership, they expedite the delivery of necessary materials. They respond to emergency codes, direct staff, and promptly escalate issues through the chain of command. They also notify on-call personnel of impending emergency surgery. The role consistently utilizes the nursing process to assess patient needs, employs effective communication, and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. They address patient and unit issues using a problem-solving approach and support the organization's mission and vision while adhering to Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) policies. Nurses are expected to practice and deliver care in accordance with the core concepts and intention of the Nursing Professional Practice Model.
