About The Position

Serve as a resource to staff, both clinically and administratively in the absence of department leadership. Serves as a member of the management team. Coordinates with senior leadership and departmental managers to effectively provide care for the patients, their families and ensure a safe work environment for staff members. Manages staffing and creates appropriate assignments for staff. Uses situational judgment and critical thinking for the activation of emergency protocols and the notification of administrators when needed.

Requirements

  • Collaborate with patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or multi state licensure in a nurse licensure compact state.
  • Minimum of Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum (3) years of professional nursing experience, preferably with one (1) year in an Emergency Room setting.
  • Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within first year of employment.
  • Ability to effectively reading, write, and perform needed calculations.
  • Above average social skills and the ability to interact with all age groups.
  • Ability to reason and analyze when circumstances warrant.
  • Ability to works with minimal to no supervision.
  • Possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • TNCC preferred, training provided.
  • Three to four years’ experience in an Emergency Room, critical care setting, or lead position preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the WCHS Mission, Vision and Values; respectful of Tribal beliefs, culture and traditions.
  • Provides direct supervision and oversight of nursing and support staff throughout the facility.
  • Provides assistance to staff and direct patient care in all nursing areas when necessary.
  • Monitors and maintains adequate staffing levels for all nursing units to ensure appropriate coverage levels to meet patient needs.
  • Coordinates the utilization of resources including staff and equipment.
  • Operates equipment safely and effectively to ensure appropriate patient care.
  • Assign rooms as appropriate for patients to meet patient needs when admitted to the facility.
  • Assisting nursing staff to complete a comprehensive orientation to obtain in-depth knowledge of equipment in assigned work area.
  • Maintains a throughout understanding of all policies and procedures at the facility.
  • Guides and instructs staff in the application of policies and procedures to ensure standards of care are met.
  • Completes census tracking activities.
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to develop departmental policies and procedures to include nursing standards of care, treatment and nursing practices to align with current evidence based practice.
  • Tracks Quality Performance Improvement Measures.
  • Attends all monthly departmental meetings.
  • Conduct patient satisfaction rounding.
  • Responsible for the Inpatient and Emergency Department during assigned shifts or when otherwise assigned.
  • Ensure information requested for all patient grievances is completed within designated time frames.
  • Ability to make decisions in matter of significance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
