Baylor Scott & White - Pflugerville features a 50-bed Main Nursing Unit between the third and fourth floor which are blended units with three levels of acuity and operates from a multidisciplinary approach in providing the highest standards of nursing care to patients and families. The facility also offers 24/7 emergency services (a 16-bed Emergency Department) and surgical services (offering adult and pediatric surgeries) and a brand new Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology Department. As Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Pflugerville is a growing medical center, the health system is continuously working to create new services to provide to members of this community. You'll work closely with management. Plan, steer, and coordinate daily tasks in nursing service administration. Create policies and procedures to achieve department priorities. You will manage and oversee daily business and administrative operations with an emphasis on providing patient-centered care. Guide and teach your team. Ensure compliance with regulations. You are expected to apply Lean methods to enhance practice and patient care. You'll help plan the staffing budget, as well as the equipment and expense budget for the year. You must update staff on patients, especially those in critical condition. Report staffing and unexpected events. You will build good relationships with department staff, patients' families, doctors, and external groups. This helps with communication, problem-solving, and improving patient care quality. Prepare reports, maintain records and files, and manage equipment and inventory. Also, maintain a database for generating reports when needed.

Requirements

  • Must have previous House Supervisor or Charge RN experience.
  • Must be well versed in hospital and medical staff organization and structure.
  • Possess knowledge of and management of disease processes or medical interventions to assist in correct patient status upon admission.
  • Understanding medical terms, promoting health, managing illness and disease, knowing common medications, dosages, effects, and side effects is important.
  • Excellent communication skills for effectively expressing thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Interpersonal skills to engage effectively with various constituencies.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Aptitude to guide the work of supervised staff in line with established guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate performance and conduct training of supervised staff.
  • Ability to observe and communicate patient's medical changes with nursing staff and doctors effectively.
  • Essential computer skills include MS Office, email, security, scheduling, payroll systems, and electronic medical records for efficiency in tasks.
  • Associate's degree in Nursing
  • At least (3) three years of relevant experience in the nursing field
  • Registered Nurse
  • Have Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support accreditation. Or, have the ability to acquire it within the first 30 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in critical care or ED highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight for multiple hospital departments in the absence of management.
  • Serve as a liaison between Administrator-On-Call staff at the facility and external agencies.
  • Communicate potentially significant issues on a timely basis in order to facilitate continuity of investigation and resolution.
  • Promote evidence-based practice within a context of constant change in patient volume and acuity, and available resources with a consistent focus on patient and family centered care and high reliability principles.
  • Provide leadership that consistently supports efficient and effective patient care services, and that support the organizational and system goals.
  • Work to ensure appropriate placement of patients, monitor care provided on the nursing units and address concerns with the caregivers, charge nurses, supervisors and the unit/department management teams.
  • Provide consultation and direction for efficient operation and quality customer service.
  • Assist in procedures for patients with complex health problems.
  • Ensures hospital policies and procedures are followed for Pharmacy after-hours services.
