About The Position

This role involves comprehensive patient assessment, care planning, and implementation within a mental health setting. The House Supervisor/RN will collect and analyze patient data, develop individualized care plans, and provide direct patient care based on current nursing knowledge and standards. Responsibilities include facilitating patient access to appropriate care levels, overseeing nursing operations, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The position also involves conducting intake assessments, making nursing diagnoses, consulting with psychiatrists, maintaining accurate documentation, and assisting clients in understanding their conditions and treatment needs. The role requires compliance with regulations, application of intervention techniques for patients in crisis, and ensuring a safe environment for staff and patients. Administrative tasks, organizing staff activities, and maintaining patient confidentiality are also key components. The House Supervisor/RN must uphold organizational ethics and customer service standards.

Requirements

Must be 21 years old or older.
Possesses current RN license to practice in the State of Texas.
Experience in inpatient mental health settings at a management level.

Current CPR upon hire.
Must pass a medication administration exam before administering medications.
Must provide proof of approved (AHA/ARC) current CPR.
Must maintain approved CPR certification prior to hire.
Successful completion of Management of Assaultive Behavior training including restraint and seclusion policies prior to assuming patient care responsibility.
Must maintain current CPR and Handle with Care.

Nice To Haves

Two years of management experience preferred.
Basic teaching or training skills preferred.
BLS and Handle with Care certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

Collect and analyze data regarding patient's physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, and anticipated discharge needs.
Determine patient's alcohol or drug toxicity and identify signs of withdrawal.
Conduct screenings or assessments to determine treatment needs.
Identify and incorporate each patient's unique needs into a comprehensive and individualized care plan, considering the severity of the disease, condition, impairment, or disability.
Render competent care and treatment based on current chemical dependency and psychiatric nursing knowledge and standards.
Evaluate care against goals and plan of care, revising as appropriate.
Facilitate the patient's access to the appropriate level of care and setting.
Oversee the operation of the nursing program and services to meet mental health needs.
Monitor, evaluate, and assist in modifying clinical services, utilizing nursing staff input.
Maintain a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for all patients.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, health professional affiliates, patient's facilities, and nursing staff.
Participate in activities that enhance professional growth and development.
Provide direct care to patients, including facilitating social and emotional needs.
Supervise medication schedules.
Evaluate patient progress.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals to determine and provide the best possible care.
Provide social support for patients by creating and encouraging participation in support groups, social activities, and other therapeutic measures.
Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
Make nursing diagnoses of the medical and emotional status of patients and recommend treatment options.
Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff in designing appropriate treatment plans.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, laboratory results, notes reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications, written charts, patient activities, and progress.
Assist clients in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment.
Comply with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures.
Use professional judgment to ascertain and apply appropriate intervention techniques with patients in crisis.
Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
Test for vital signs of pain and ensure treatments of pain and arrange further medical attention when necessary.
Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, and computer entry of progress notes.
Organize activities and schedules for medical and/or non-medical tasks of the Child, Adolescent and Adult and support staff for a given shift.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Uphold the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.
