Supervises operations of the med/surg unit and emergency department. Assumes accountability for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, cost-effective services consistent with the needs of the hospital within budgetary guidelines. Serves as a resource person to staff, both clinically and administratively. Serves as the night shift representative for nursing management. The House Supervisor is an RN who functions globally as a support person. Coordinates utilization of resources including staff and equipment. Seeks to enhance the quality of care by acting as a consultant and mentor. Provides appropriate feedback to management regarding staff and clinical situations, as necessary. Contributes to an environment that promotes staff empowerment. Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting areas of responsibility and assures compliance. Promotes a positive, professional image both internally and externally. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily.
