About The Position

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated and talented physician to join our team of House Officers (Limited Permit Physician). We serve a culturally diverse population with a wide spectrum of medical conditions. As House Officer, you will work under the supervision of an Attending Physician to deliver high-quality patient care within the guidelines and limitations set forth by the New York State Education Department and the supervising physician/facility. Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is a 220-bed teaching hospital located in a residential neighborhood directly on the border of northern Brooklyn and Western Queens. We serve a variety of cultural and ethnic communities. We are committed to quality and compassion in addressing the healthcare needs of urban neighborhoods. The House Officer (Limited Permit Physician) will provide medical care to patients under the supervision of a fully licensed and registered New York State physician. This role is designed for individuals who have met most of the requirements for medical licensure in NYS but may not yet have completed all examinations or residency requirements. The Limited Permit Physician will contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care within the guidelines and limitations set forth by the New York State Education Department and the supervising physician/facility.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school (MD, DO, or equivalent).
  • Successful completion of required USMLE or COMLEX examinations (as per NYS regulations for limited permits).
  • Eligibility for or possession of a New York State Limited Permit to practice medicine.
  • Strong clinical skills and medical knowledge.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient care and ethical medical practice.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Under the clinical direction of the Department of Medicine, the House Officer, in the Quality Department, will monitor key clinical performance indicators for Value Based Purchasing and Inpatient Quality Reporting Programs – Readmission and Mortality, and Core Measures for Pneumonia and related conditions. This involves conducting concurrent and retrospective chart reviews, communicating findings to clinical teams, and tracking data to improve documentation and quality of care.
  • Under the administrative direction of the Chief Quality Officer, the House Officer will translate healthcare quality needs into data-driven deliverables, creating reports and dashboards to support improvement activities.
  • He/she will also assist with project management, support performance improvement projects, and contribute to hospital-wide quality initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance in data reporting and submissions.
  • The House Officer will also be involved in the day-to-day operations of Wyckoff's Transition of Care Service and the continuity of care for patients discharged with pneumonia and related conditions.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a licensed and registered NYS physician.
  • Regularly consult with the supervising physician on patient cases and treatment plans.
  • Adhere to the supervising physician's directives and protocols.
  • Participate in case conferences and other meetings as required.
  • Seek guidance and clarification from the supervising physician when necessary.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the employment institution or practice.
  • Maintain a valid NYS Limited Permit and ensure timely renewal.
  • Complete required training and continuing medical education as mandated by NYS and the employer.
  • Document all patient encounters and interventions according to established guidelines.
