HN429 - Part-Time or Full-Time House Manager - Los Altos, CA

British American Household StaffingLos Altos Hills, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

A family of four (2 parents, 2 children ages 8 and 11) in Los Altos, CA are looking for an experienced household manager to take ownership of the operations and coordination of their home. They already have wonderful people—a nanny, cleaners, gardeners, and tutors—and need someone to oversee and connect it all so the day-to-day no longer runs through them. This role can be part-time or full-time. They can pivot the role toward house manager OR house manager/nanny. The role starts ASAP. The family is open to 2 different structures, depending on the candidate to hire's preference. Option 1: They keep their nanny and bring this new candidate to hire on as a house manager focused on vendors, scheduling, household systems, and directing existing staff, with little day-to-day childcare. Part-time or full-time, they are still deciding if they prefer part-time or full-time for this role. Option 2: One combined nanny/house manager. This one is heavier on the children and would include helping with pickups when they're headed different directions, being with one child while the Mother is with the other, sometimes being with both children plus light cleaning and tidying, and the house-manager side on top. It's a full time role and the candidate would have use of one of their cars for this version. Because the children are 8 and 11 and the Mother is done with work by school pickup time, she is quite involved with them herself so it's not a full-day childcare load either way. This would be a full-time role.

Requirements

  • Run a busy household before, bring order to many moving parts, and can be trusted to make sound decisions independently
  • Excellent with vendors and systems, discreet with a family’s private life, and comfortable with the digital side of household management, including accounts, portals, and scheduling tools
  • A reliable car and clean driving record are required (for the house manager role, for the nanny/house manager role they can provide a car for work purposes. If candidate uses own car, they will be reimbursed per IRS gas mileage reimbursement standards)
  • Genuinely enjoys being around children and would be warm and willing to help in a rare, unexpected situation, for example, giving a child a ride or staying with them briefly until a parent is available

Responsibilities

  • Taking ownership of their calendars, appointments, and travel
  • Sourcing, vetting, and managing vendors, with the judgment to distinguish necessary work from an upsell
  • Keeping the household running smoothly and noticing what needs attention before they have to ask
  • Directing their existing household team and maintaining clear standards
  • Mail, forms, school paperwork, and household administration
  • Handling the coordination layer, not the execution layer: they already have someone handling daily tasks and child pickups, and they need the person above that.
  • Covers household scheduling, vendors and home maintenance, travel, household systems and accounts, children's schedules, and supervising existing staff with a real reporting line.
  • Runs a household rather than works in it: organized, discreet, and able to use good judgment without checking in first.
  • On-site through a 60 to 90 day ramp, then open to a hybrid schedule.
  • This is not a nanny role and does not involve primary childcare.
