About The Position

The House Float Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care to all patient populations in FOUR nursing departments: Medical-Surgical (Med Surg), Intensive Care/Critical Care Unit (ICU/CCU), Family Birth Center (FBC) and Emergency Department (ED). Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. The incumbent applies the nursing process within their scope of practice as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Work includes assessing, developing, and implementing an individualized plan of care in collaboration with providers, interdisciplinary teams, and the patient and/or family throughout their hospitalization while following each department-based standards of care.

Current Oregon Registered Nurse license without restriction
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (CPR) required

Training and competency testing in FOUR (4) departments identified as Med-Surg, ICU, FBC, and ED.
Ability to lift 50 pounds with frequent lifting/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
Requires frequent use of computer
Must demonstrate manual dexterity
Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, including but not limited to sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items. Employee eligible for Hepatitis B Vaccination if desired.

Nice To Haves

Current AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred. Must have within 6 months of hire.
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or equivalent, STABLE certification, and NRP certification preferred. Must have these within 6 months of hire
At least one-year acute care nursing experience preferred.
Bachelor's degree of Nursing (BSN) or greater preferred
Specialty certification preferred: i.e. Critical Care Nurse (CCRN), Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN), Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)

Responsibilities

Ensure compassionate, collaborative, and professional nursing care throughout the hospitalization in each department as assigned by the supervisor/manager or designee.
Organize patient care by prioritizing, delegating, delivering, and evaluating care on an ongoing and timely basis.
Gather and interpret patient information with accuracy; perform and document nursing assessments; verify presence of all necessary medical records.
Implement appropriate patient interventions, evaluate outcomes, and document care delivered and patient status.
Administer, oversee and document the safe administration of medications and treatments.
Consult with providers and supervisors (e.g. House Supervisor, Manager or designee) as appropriate to determine best treatment plans for patients.
Provide healthcare education and guidance to patients and families in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Advocate for the ethical and holistic care of patients from diverse backgrounds promoting autonomy, dignity, and health.
Contribute to assigned work unit by demonstrating a commitment to competent professional nursing practice and engaging in opportunities for professional growth.
Stay informed about professional trends and adhere to policies, procedures, and standards of care, including safety / risk management, regulatory requirements, and each department-based guidelines.
Identify opportunities for, and actively participate in, performance and quality improvement activities to improve clinical outcomes, healthcare delivery systems, and address patient safety and satisfaction.
Department competencies for floats include achievement of department requirements including a minimum competency of Med-Surg Primary, ICU 2nd, FBC 2nd, and ER 2nd. It is the responsibility of the individual house float to communicate with the unit manager any needed additional trainings.
